Public Inquiry and Information Centre closes, NSW

The Public Inquiry and Information Centre (PIIC), which was activated to support the flood response in NSW, has now closed.

Since the PIIC was activated on Monday 28 February 2022, the call centre has received more than 2000 calls from people seeking the latest up-to-date information on flood-affected areas or the whereabouts of friends or relatives.

The New South Wales Police Force would like to thank the more than 80 volunteers from the following organisations who kindly performed operations in the centre; Red Cross, NSW Rural Fire Service, St John’s Ambulance and Surf Life Saving Australia.

Trainees from the NSW Police Force Communications Officer Training Program were also utilised in the call centre, giving them real-time experience in dealing with emergency management inquiries.

Whilst the PIIC is now closed, volunteer staff remain on standby should it be required to open again.

Members of the public in flood-affected areas are reminded to avoid dangers such as damaged powerlines and the possibility of asbestos in flood-damaged properties.

It is also advisable to continue to monitor emergency websites, including www.ses.nsw.gov.au, as well as your regular media news sources for updated advice and warnings.
