Almost 38,000 Queensland Year 12 students will finish school today, (Friday 15 November) with up to 18,000 schoolies expected to visit the Gold Coast to celebrate the end of their school years.
Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women Di Farmer congratulated Queensland’s graduating Class of 2019 and reminded those heading off to celebrate to do so safely.
“The most important thing for every school leaver to remember while you’re celebrating is to Be Safe and Watch Your Mates,” Ms Farmer said.
“Through the Queensland Government’s Safer Schoolies Response, 25,000 Year 12 students throughout the state have taken part in Schoolies education sessions, helping them to make informed decisions and choices when it comes to their end of year celebrations.
“So go out there, have a great time and make some fantastic memories, but most importantly please keep yourself safe and always watch out for your friends.”
Safer Schoolies education programs cover a wide range of topics including risks associated with drugs and alcohol, welfare and emotional health, social media and privacy, sexual health and consent, as well as tips and information about accommodation responsibilities.
