Queensland taking stock of beef industry showcase

One of the beef industry’s biggest global events is less than a year away and Queensland is primed to showcase its premier produce at Beef 2021 to be held in Rockhampton 2-8 May 2021.

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner said the Queensland Government committed $1 million to help attract tens of thousands of visitors and international delegates from dozens of countries – in person or as virtual visitors – to Australia’s beef capital.

“We are 100 per cent focussed on our COVID-19 economic recovery and to get the State moving again and it’s forging ahead with events like this which will help,” Mr Furner said.

“We know Beef 2018 attracted overseas delegates from 43 countries, tens of thousands of visitors and 5,000 head of cattle, and we’re hoping Beef 2021 will be even better.

“Beef is at the heart of our great State and is now our largest agricultural commodity. It’s steered us through this global pandemic and will continue to be a driving force in our recovery.

“Beef processing directly employs 10,000 and supports a further 8000 and beef exports are worth $5.37 billion to the economy.”

Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke said he was proud and excited to support Beef 2021 in Rockhampton.

“What better way to present Queensland’s amazing beef industry to the world,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“Rocky produces some of the best and tastiest beef anywhere on the planet thanks to our dedicated farmers and industry workers who have faced challenging recent times with bushfires, drought, floods and now COVID-19.

“The Beef 2021 countdown has been launched virtually due to the coronavirus and I thank Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner for being part of the video launch today with our friends at Beef Australia.

“It speaks volumes that Beef Australia hosts this triennial event in Rockhampton which is renowned for being at the heart of our nation’s beef industry.”

Beef 2021 will be Australia’s leading beef industry event, showcasing beef produce, innovation and technology, achievements, cultural experiences and entertainment.
