Queenslanders Want Sun Powering Their State

THE CLIMATE COUNCIL congratulates the re-elected Palaszczuk Government, which went to the state election promising to invest in a range of renewable energy projects.

“Queenslanders made it clear at the polls that they want job creation that supports a transition to renewable energy,” said the Climate Council’s Head of Research, Dr Martin Rice.

“This election result is a clear endorsement of the vision of Queensland as the sunshine state; powered by renewables and expanding into new industries including green hydrogen and clean transport,” said Dr Rice.

A number of positive announcements were made throughout the election campaign. These include $145m for Renewable Energy Zones, $500m for the Renewable Energy Fund, $30m for the installation of solar on public hospitals, resourcing for hydrogen, future jobs and investment in reef and ecosystem restoration projects.

“Now that the election is over, Queenslanders are keen to just get on with it. They want new clean jobs, economic growth and long term opportunities for the regions,” said Dr Rice.

“As we head towards a state budget in early December, the re-elected Palaszczuk Government must deliver lasting opportunities for Queensland; transitioning our state from the boom and bust cycles of the fossil fuel industry to clean jobs and economic prosperity,” he said.
