Queenstown hotel robberies – can you help?

Police from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch, continue to investigate two linked robberies at a hotel at Queenstown last year and have released vision and images in the hope the public may be able to assist.

Just before 3am on Sunday the 13 September 2019, two men armed with a screw driver and hammer entered the Prince of Wales Hotel gaming room and threatened staff. One suspect jumped the bar and took cash from the register and a staff member’s back pack.

The first suspect is described as being of male, about 170cm tall, brown skin and medium build. He was disguised with a black bandana and wearing a black hooded top with a ‘Beretta’ cap underneath, black/white ‘Fila’ track pants, ‘Nike’ sneakers and black gloves.

The second suspect (who remained on the public side of the bar and gave directions to his accomplice) is described as being of male, about 160cm tall, brown skin, stocky build and disguised with a white bandana.

Just before 2.45am on Thursday the 24 October 2019, two men armed with a samurai sword and a knife entered the same hotel gaming room and threatened staff and patrons.

Again, one of the suspects jumped the bar and took cash from the register. His physical description was 165cm tall, brown skin, thin build. He was disguised with a black bandana and wearing a two-tone light grey/dark grey ‘Everlast’ hooded top, dark track pants, black/orange ‘Puma’ sneakers and a distinctive ‘Louisville Sluggers’ baseball glove.

The second suspect (who again remained on the public side of the bar and gave directions to his accomplice) was of the same description as before. On this occasion he was disguised with a clown bandana and wearing a grey hooded top, black beanie, black track pants, beige sneakers and also a distinctive ‘Louisville Sluggers’ baseball glove – this offender is suspected to have also been involved in the first incident.

In both instances, the men left on foot towards Long Street with an amount of cash.

Thankfully, no one was physically injured during either robbery.
