Victoria’s best wines will be showcased at Parliament House as part of the 2022 Victorian Wine Show to celebrate the quality and craftsmanship of the state’s wine industry.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Nick Staikos attended the event to congratulate three esteemed winemakers who took home awards.
The Annual Victorian Wine Show invites winemakers from across Victoria’s 21 distinct wine regions to compete for the Wine of Show award. Last year’s winner was Paringa Estate’s 2021 Chardonnay from the Mornington Peninsula.
Based in Geelong, Provenance Wines was selected for the Premier’s Trophy ahead of the 11 other finalists from a panel of industry experts including winemakers and sommeliers.
The Premier’s Trophy launched in 2017 with the aim of showcasing the finest local wines. Last year the Victorian Wine show hosted acclaimed wine expert Takuya Kusuda as its first international judge, broadening its horizons and promoting Victoria’s diverse wine regions, locally and abroad.
Midhill Winery’s 2016 Blanc de Blanc was awarded the inaugural Premier’s Choice Award winner.
The Andrews Labor Government acknowledges the vital contribution Victoria’s wine industry makes to the state – supporting more than 6,000 jobs and generating $6.2 billion to the economy.
The Government continues to support the beverage sector with the $1.5 million Drink Victorian program, which encourages venues around the state to feature more local drinks on their menu.
