Rare opportunity for world class Kalbarri Skywalk venture

  • EOI open for kiosk at Kalbarri Skywalk
  • Skywalk expected to open by early 2020
  • New attraction to create employment opportunities for tourism businesses, accommodation providers and associated service industries
  • The highly anticipated Kalbarri Skywalk project is a step closer to completion, with the State Government calling for expressions of interest for the lease and operation of a kiosk at the site.

The Kalbarri Skywalk will be a spectacular new attraction in Kalbarri National Park, with two cantilevered lookouts extending from the edge of the cliff face to provide spectacular views of the Murchison Gorge and surrounds.

The universally accessible site will include a kiosk, toilets, shade shelters, landscaping, connecting pathways, carparks, and interpretive signage, in addition to an extra 22 kilometres of sealed roads to key tourism sites in the Park.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions – Parks and Wildlife Service is encouraging experienced individuals and organisations to apply for the kiosk opportunity, which could include the sale of food and drinks, café style service, merchandise, souvenirs and hire equipment.

The $24 million Kalbarri Skywalk and Infrastructure project includes $10.1 million of road and car park improvements, has created more than 150 local jobs during the construction phase and 10 jobs for local Aboriginal people.

As stated by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:

“Visitors to Kalbarri National Park will be able to spend the entire day exploring its sites, and enhance their experience by enjoying a refreshing drink and meal in the stunning surrounds of the Skywalk site.

“We want visitors to really take time to appreciate the spectacular natural beauty of the Park, while supporting local business and the local economy.

“The McGowan Government is committed to creating world-class facilities and experiences in our national parks that ensure they are visited and appreciated for generations to come.”

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“The Mid-West is a popular destination for visitors, offering spectacular beaches, scenery, recreational experiences and a range of accommodation options.

“Kalbarri’s economic mainstay is tourism, and the creation of this exciting new National Park infrastructure with kiosk will enhance the already growing local tourism industry.

“Annual visits to the Park have increased by more than 100,000 over the past three years, and it is expected that the number of local, interstate and international tourists will continue to rise as we invest in more visitor infrastructure in key locations across WA.”
