Reassurance and prevention patrols continue in Westport

While the recovery effort continues following the flooding event of earlier this month, Westport Police would like to reassure the community that their safety and the prevention of criminal activity is a priority.

Since the flooding event Westport Police have been operating 24 hours a day seven days a week and these operational hours will continue over the coming weeks.

“We have additional staff in Westport who are assisting with reassurance and prevention work and we are patrolling in areas where there are vacant homes,” said Sergeant Georgie Were.

Police are committed to ensuring people are safe and feel safe during the ongoing recovery from the flooding event.

While staff initially provided support to the emergency response the focus has now moved to recovery and prevention and there have been positive results with very few incidents of note or concern.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious or concerning is asked to call 111 immediately. Alternatively, if it is not an emergency situation Police can be contact on 105.
