Melbourne will welcome the tenth World Recreational Fishing Conference in 2023 and organisers are calling for abstracts from fisheries experts, academics, students and thought leaders.

Victorian Fisheries Authority CEO, Travis Dowling, said Melbourne is the events capital of Australia and everyone is looking forward to next year when the brightest minds will school up Down Under.

“The International Scientific Board is now inviting speakers to join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 18 to 23 February,” Mr Dowling said.

“We’re also encouraging recreational fishing enthusiasts from all corners of the globe, industry trail-blazers and professionals in the field to make the trip and book a spot when registrations open soon.”

The headline theme of the conference is ‘Keeping Pace in a Dynamic and Challenging World with Changing Fisheries’, which is sure to generate exciting dialogue between peers, colleagues and world renowned experts in recreational fisheries management and science.

Get set for a week of riveting presentations, topical discussions, exciting research and a chance to reconnect and forge new professional networks.

Mr Dowling said Melbourne is also home to incredible recreational fishing opportunities for those considering wetting a line or taking a dive while here.

“February is the height of our summer so it’s a great time to enjoy our beaches, cast a lure for an iconic Murray cod or explore the amazing underwater world in Port Phillip Bay, right on Melbourne’s doorstep.

“If koalas and kangaroos are on the bucket-list, then there are also wildlife parks and Aussie experiences to be had not far out of town.

“Melbourne has consistently ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities and is recognised for its vibrant culture, delicious food and coffee, and famous sporting events.”

The deadline for abstracts has been extended to Wednesday 31 August 2022 and they can be submitted via the portal at www.wrfc10.com/submission/call-for-abstracts
