Regional Victoria must be provided live sites for Matildas’ semi-final

Liberal Party Victoria

With Victorians keenly anticipating the Matildas’ semi-final match on Wednesday night, regional communities must be given the same opportunities as their metropolitan counterparts to come together and cheer on the Australian women’s team.

While the Andrews Government has established a number of live viewing sites in metropolitan Melbourne, there are currently no approved regional live sites.

The Liberals and Nationals are calling on the Andrews Government to rectify this as a matter of urgency and fast-track any relevant State Government approvals required to establish live sites across regional Victoria.

Shadow Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Events, Sam Groth, said regional Victoria should not miss out on the celebrations that are occurring in metropolitan Melbourne.

“This is a time for Victorians to come together to celebrate the amazing Matildas and regional Victorians should also be given the opportunity to do so,” Mr Groth said.

“This is more important than ever following the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games which was to have been staged across Victoria’s regions. They should not be neglected.

“People living in regional Victoria who want to attend a live site to cheer on the Matildas shouldn’t be denied the opportunity because they don’t live in Melbourne.”
