Researchers seek volunteers for national Clozapine study

QIMR Berghofer

Volunteers are needed for a national study by researchers at QIMR Berghofer, into the effectiveness of a drug used to treat a number of mental health conditions, including Schizophrenia.

The ClozaGene Study aims to improve the lives of Australians who are taking the drug Clozapine, by identifying the environmental and genetic factors that may influence its effectiveness.

Researchers want to find out why Clozapine works for some people but not others, and why some people experience unpleasant side-effects and others don’t.

They will also investigate the symptoms or conditions for which Clozapine is prescribed.

If you have ever been treated with Clozapine and are over the age of 18, you are encouraged to join the study. It would involve completing a short online survey and potentially donating a saliva sample.
