Residents encouraged to get vaccinated

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams is encouraging residents who haven’t yet been vaccinated to get out and get the jab this weekend.

“It has been fantastic to see the momentum that’s really picked up around vaccinations in Queensland,” said Mayor Williams.

“There’s a real shift in energy – I think we’re all excited to see our borders open on 17 December.

“We have been incredibly lucky here in Central Queensland, but we have to keep in mind that once the borders open it will be a different situation.

“We know the way this virus spreads, and once restrictions are relaxed it will find its way here.

“We can’t rely on border closures and lockdowns to protect us when we have a vaccine that’s readily and freely available.

“We really need to step up and do our part to protect ourselves and our community.

“We know that a vaccinated person has an 86 percent less chance of being infected with the virus and passing it on, and a 90 percent less chance of dying from the effects of COVID.

“We also know that the process takes at least five weeks to be covered from your first vaccine dose, so if you want to arm yourself against the virus when borders open now is the time to roll up your sleeves and get the jab.”

This Sunday 31 November vaccination pop-ups will be held at:

  • Infamous Cabaret at Littler-Cum-Ingham Park from 11am to 3pm
  • Barra Bash Family Fun Day at Frenchville Sports Club from 2pm to 5pm

The Rockhampton Community Vaccine Location at Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Yeppoon Road, is open every day from 9am to 4pm, and until 7pm on Thursdays.

Walk-ins always welcome at all clinics. Everyone aged 12 and older is eligible.
