Happy squeals of joy could be heard coming from Box Hill’s newest playground on Saturday, May 28.

Hannaford Avenue Reserve was officially opened by the Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, who described the new facility as a “much anticipated play space”.

“Hannaford Avenue Reserve is a very important place as it fills a real need for open space and playgrounds in the local Box Hill community,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“When designing this park, we ensured that extensive community consultation was undertaken so the park would best reflect the wishes of the local community.

“The park contains great facilities and includes areas such as significant open space, a picnic shelter, seating and a number of trees which will provide shade and natural scenery as they grow,” he said.

In addition to this, the Reserve also includes a children’s playground with climbing unit with slide, swing set and other children’s equipment.

“The playground is fun and challenging and can be used by children of all ages and most abilities,” Mayor Gangemi added.

Mayor Gangemi also thanked those who contributed to the project.

“I would like to thank Council Officers and the contractors who turned our plans into a reality,” he said.

“I would also like to thank the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE), who awarded Council a ‘Greening Our City’ grant, which contributed additional funds that helped to deliver this local park and playground.

“Most of all, I would particularly like to thank our residents for working alongside us as we built Hannaford Avenue Reserve and as we continue to build Box Hill,” Mayor Gangemi added.
