Risdon Prison mess cooks up more Liberal waste
Reports that the Liberals’ new $20 million Risdon Prison kitchen was so half-baked it has ceased production just three months after opening raises serious questions about how Tasmanians have been lumped with more Liberal waste.
The CPSU said meals are now being sourced from interstate to feed 1,000 prisoners statewide while extensive rectification works take place, at an estimated cost of more than $90,000 per week.
The Liberals need to come clean about:
- Who signed off on this mess, and why the concerns of the workforce appear to have been ignored?
- How much it is actually costing per week to ship meals from Victoria, and how long this arrangement will be in place?
- Why were Tasmanian contractors overlooked to keep the clean-up cash at home?
Labor sympathises with the workers who raised concerns throughout the years’ long planning, consultation and risk assessment process, and have been left to clean up the mess of this latest Liberal failure.
Premier Rockliff needs to front up to Tasmanians about how another colossal infrastructure stuff-up has happened on his watch.
It won’t be lost on Tasmanians that the same Government that bought a billion dollars’ worth of ships and forgot to build berth, has now spent years building a $20 million kitchen that can’t be used.
Following 13 years of Liberal waste like this completely cooking Tasmania’s finances, Premier Rockliff handed Eric Abetz the knife to slash jobs and public services to pay for it.
