A plan has been unveiled to further activate the Logan River by providing easier public access and creating opportunities for leisure and tourism at Logan Village.
The Riverfront Precinct will be ‘a shared community place where people can exercise, relax and embrace the natural and heritage significance of the Logan River’.
It will reflect and celebrate the area’s First Nations and pioneering history while also generating economic opportunities for the wider community.
Details of the proposed development were outlined in a new Logan Village Riverfront Precinct Plan (LVRPP) endorsed this week by Logan City Council.
The LVRPP builds on, and complements, extensive works already undertaken by Council in the nearby Logan Village Green.
These include a new adventure playground and upgraded event space, a modern skate bowl, a new cenotaph and the creation of the Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail.
They were delivered as part of the Logan Village Implementation Plan which was formulated on community feedback from the 2018 Logan Village Forum.
Activation of the Logan River was a high priority among those who attended the forum.
Extensive rounds of community consultation followed which assisted in formulation the LVRPP.
Economic Development Chair Councillor Jon Raven said the LVRPP embraces Council’s vision for the Logan River.
“The community told us they want to enjoy our local waterways more and this plan identifies how that can happen,” Cr Raven said.
“Delivering the facilities that the community has asked for will ensure this beautiful part of the Logan River is not only popular for locals but also becomes a tourism destination in South East Queensland.”
The LVRRP outlines clear design principles for future development including:
- An accessible river where people can enjoy the natural beauty
- A healthy river and a flood resilient asset
- A tourism destination with activities to attract people to Logan Village
- A home for active pursuits such as walking, cycling and kayaking
- An authentic identity that respects and positively reflects local First Nations and pioneer history
The adoption of the LVRPP will allow Council to quickly respond whenever suitable future funding becomes available.
