There has been positive uptake of autumn baiting in the Riverina region despite numerous hurdles.
For the period February 1 to April 23 Riverina Local Land Services distributed almost 58,000 fox baits, which was 10,000 shy of the same period last year.
“Face value figures say we are down over the corresponding period but when we compare the amount of landholders participating, we have only seen a decrease of around five per cent,” said Team Leader Biosecurity Toby O’Brien.
This is a fantastic result given the conditions our customers have faced over the past months – drought, bushfires and now a very welcome autumn break which has seen them become very busy in the critical baiting period,” Mr O’Brien said.
“On top of that COVID-19 is not something anyone could predict, so we absolutely applaud land managers in our region for their ongoing prioritisation of pest control.”
For the same timeframe wild dog baits issued differed by only 30 baits – proving the commitment by landholders in the eastern Riverina to wild dog management.
“This is an outstanding result for this time of the year, and landholders are reminded that baits can be ordered at any time of the year so please contact us to discuss your pest control requirements.”
