Roll up, roll up, circus joins Ticket to Play program

Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Recreation

Circus has always captured children’s imaginations and now the Rockliff Liberal Government’s popular Ticket to Play program has been expanded to provide financial help for families wanting to register children getting active and participating in circus activities.

Ticket to Play has helped thousands of Tasmanian families each year with the cost of registration for sport and active recreation since it was introduced in 2018.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street said the expansion of Ticket to Play aligned with the Government’s vision to ensure that young people from across the State, no matter their background, had every opportunity to get involved in sport and recreation from an early age.

“Circus is fun, active and healthy. I’m really pleased that we can continue to add more non-traditional sports into Ticket to Play,” Minister Street said.

“The Government wants to break down barriers for children and families to get active, and Ticket to Play allows eligible children to receive two $100 vouchers per year for approved activities.

“We know that there are many ways to stay active and that’s why we have introduced a new approval framework for Ticket to Play that allows non-traditional sporting activities, including circus, to be considered for inclusion.

“The new approval process follows the inclusion of the likes of learn to swim, dance, and indoor cricket in the Ticket to Play program over the past two years.”

Liberal Member for Montgomery Leonie Hiscutt MLC was instrumental in raising the matter of circus and similar activities being included in Ticket to Play and was delighted to have helped more children access non-traditional sporting activities.

“The popularity of circus is growing and it’s a great way for children to learn skills and gain confidence while improving their physical fitness,” Ms Hiscutt said.

“It’s important that the Government is able to help families get their children into sport and active recreation activities through Ticket to Play and wonderful that circus is now included.”
