The City of Swan has launched another round of its annual Rural Properties Revegetation Program.
The program offers City of Swan residents who live on a property that is 4,000 square meters or larger in size, a selection of free, waterwise native plants, including trees, shrubs, and groundcovers.
Swan Valley/Gidgegannup Ward Councillor Rod Henderson said the program was part of the City’s approach to increase the tree canopy, conserve the land and protect biodiversity.
“By planting more local native plants and trees, we create shade, improve air quality and provide habitat and food for local fauna,” said Cr Henderson.
“Revegetation will also help to combat salinity and soil erosion in our rural areas.”
Swan Valley/Gidgegannup Ward Councillor Charlie Zannino said the City had partnered with Trillion Trees to grow approximately 10,000 plants for this year’s program.
“Trillion Trees is a local, volunteer-run organisation and we are very grateful for their hard work and assistance to roll out the program each year,” said Cr Zannino.
“Together, we have provided around 160,000 plants to residents over the 16 years the program has been running.”
In 2023, the program will be expanded to provide plants to all properties within the City, regardless of their size.
Orders for this year’s allocation are open from Friday, April 4, until 4pm on Friday, April 29, 2022.
