Relocatable pools (e.g. inflatable pools, splash pools) and spas are a drowning hazard for young children. From 2002 to 2021, it was reported that 21 children aged 0-4 years drowned in portable pools in Australia.
To save lives from accidental drownings, the Victorian Government introduced safety standards for relocatable pools and spas in 2019.
When installing a relocatable pool or spa capable of holding a water depth of more than 30cm, you will need restrict access by installing a safety barrier for the entire duration the structure is erected.
The permanent or relocatable barrier needs to comply with Australian Standard 1926.1-2012, outlined in the Victorian Building Authority safety barrier self-assessment checklist.
