Seafood can still be on menu this Easter

In this time of COVID-19 lock down, delicious food is more important than ever for keeping our spirits up.

And you don’t have to forgo your traditional seafood treat this Easter. Raid those recipe books and utilise our GoodFish guide to pick sustainably sourced ingredients for your Good Friday feast.

Alternatively, don’t forget that many of Australia’s best restaurants and fish and chip shops are serving delicious take away dinners. Check our GoodFish business directory and be sure to give them a call to find out what their plans are over the Easter weekend.

GoodFish program manager Sascha Rust said: “Venues around the country have adapted their business models to include takeaway and delivery options cooked from consciously sourced and high quality ingredients.

“Why cook or struggle to source ingredients under the latest physical distancing rules when you could just pick up the phone?

“Our GoodFish chefs tell us they are adapting well into takeaway outlets with pick-ups and some deliveries available in their local areas.

“Treating yourself and your loved ones in this way not only helps these businesses, but also the fishers and farmers who supply them. Now’s the time to support these industries in any way we can.”

There are also plenty of sustainable options for those planning to cook up a storm in their own kitchens for an Easter treat.

Adrian Meder, Sustainable Seafood Program Manager said: “With the export market drying up for many of our wonderful and sustainable fisheries, now’s the time to support these businesses.

“Why not source some green-listed Spencer Gulf King Prawns for a classic Easter meal. Over the years, these fishers have worked to reduce the environmental footprint of their fishery, working hard to fish lighter and gentler over generations.

“Many sustainable fishers, fishmongers and wholesalers are adapting so their product is directly available to Australian seafood lovers.

“Wholesalers have pivoted towards retail models, providing home delivery and e-commerce platforms. We are also hearing stories of the community really rallying around small fishing businesses who deliver to the door. Their delicious produce is still available from fishmongers and supermarkets.”

If you are finding it hard to find the fish you want, remember that local markets and small fish shops remain open. Take our GoodFish guide with you and support them as they need it more than ever during these challenging times.
