Seeking community input on St Arnaud Flood Study

St Arnaud Flood November 2018

Northern Grampians Shire Council’s flood modelling study of St Arnaud township has moved into the community consultation phase and we are inviting community input on the findings to ensure they are an accurate reflection of how flooding occurs in St Arnaud.

The study, performed in partnership with environmental consultancy firm Water Technology, will inform council on infrastructure improvements and planning that need to occur to manage future flood events.

Letters requesting feedback have been sent to residents in flood prone areas of St Arnaud and now council is seeking broader community consultation. There is an online “Have Your Say” portal on the Northern Grampians Shire Council website and large printed maps available for viewing at the St Arnaud customer service centre during office hours. Individual property maps can also be provided on request.

Council is encouraging residents to send in any photos of flood levels from the November 2018 St Arnaud flood event and provide comments on the interactive map to help build a clear picture of flooding in the area.

Northern Grampians Shire Council CEO, Liana Thompson, is encouraging anyone with a point of view on the St Arnaud Flood Study to have their say.

“This is a great opportunity for residents affected by the last flood event, along with the whole township of St Arnaud, to give us feedback on the accuracy of the findings and also make suggestions that might help improve our infrastructure and management of the next flood,” she said.

“As a community, let’s give ourselves the best information and emergency management foresight we can through this feedback process.”

Responses to the flood study can be sent to Council directly through the Have Your Say web page www.ngshire.vic.gov.au/floodstudy, by filling in the form at the customer service centre and submitting it directly or by post to P.O. BOX 580, Stawell, 3380.

The community feedback period will close at 9am on Wednesday 25 November 2020.
