A sports car has been destroyed after a fire at a McGraths Hill service station overnight.
About 6.50pm (Saturday 27 April 2019), emergency services were called to a service station at the intersection of Windsor and Pitt Town Roads, following reports of a car fire near the petrol bowsers.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and were able to contain the blaze to the car and the overhead awning before it could spread to the shop or the bowsers and fuel tanks.
The 2007 Corvette has been destroyed and the fire has extensively damaged the service station. No one was injured during the incident.
Officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined by crime scene officers and fire investigators.
Inquiries are continuing but at this stage the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
Hawkesbury Police Area Command Duty Officer, Chief Inspector Garry Sims APM said the quick action of the service station attendant in activating the isolation switch, prevented a potentially very dangerous situation.
“I would like to reassure members of the public that the situation was bought under control quickly by emergency services.
“An assessment has been made of the area and there has been no contamination to the local environment,” Chief Inspector Garry Sims APM said.
