Shots fired during Smithfield Plains break-in, South Australia

Northern District Police are investigating violent incident overnight where two men broke into a Smithfield Plains house and discharged a firearm.

Just before 3.30am on Friday 10 July, two men armed with a firearm and a machete smashed the rear glass door of a house on Roberts Crescent, entered the home threatening the five occupants.

Shortly after a male resident in his 20’s ran out the front door of the house, with the suspects giving chase firing two shots from the firearm towards the victim.

The suspects fled on foot shortly after, its is believed they left the area in a vehicle parked nearby.

Northern District Police have cordoned of the street with Crime Scene Examiners currently examining the scene.

The occupants of the house including the man who ran from the home are uninjured other than a few minor scratches and so far are not fully cooperating with investigators at the scene.

Police are current door-knocking other homes in the street and searching for any nearby CCTV.

The incident is not considered a random attack, anyone with information on the event including vehicles seen in the area is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
