Tasmania Police has recently conducted a number of planned traffic operations in the Bridgewater and Gagebrook areas, with a specific focus on the illegal and anti-social riding of off-road motorcycles.
Over the past 10 days, police have seized eight motorcycles, including the recovery of two stolen motorcycles, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of six people who were charged with a range of offences including evading police, motor vehicle stealing, unlicenced and disqualified driving as well as using an unregistered motor vehicle of a public street.
“The unlawful use of both off-road motorcycles and unregistered road bikes within the community poses a serious risk, not only to the safety of pedestrians and road users, but also to the rider” said Sergeant Chris Cupit.
“Police will continue to proactively target this type of behaviour utilising a number of strategies. Offending riders can expect to be prosecuted and have their vehicle seized.
“Hooning, illegal or dangerous driving or riding will not be tolerated, and police will continue to actively target these behaviours.”
