The much-loved Leanyer Recreation Park has received a facelift with new waterslides officially open from today.
The replacement of the waterslide flumes make the slides the newest in the Territory.
Over 150,000 Territorians visit the Park each year for free fun and activities.
The construction of the new slides created local jobs and supported local business, with Territory company Scope Building NT delivering the works.
Earlier this year, Surf Life Saving NT and Akron Group NT won the contract to provide lifeguard and maintenance services at the Leanyer Recreation Park and Palmerston Water Park for the next five years to ensure delivery of operations and safety of visitors.
The much-anticipated $3.1 million Leanyer Recreation Park upgrade will provide residents and visitors with a revitalised active recreation space that is inclusive and accessible for those who live with restricted mobility and disability.
Stage one of the redevelopment is now complete with the slides open. Stage two is the dry play area, being on track to be completed by early-May, and stage three of the wet play area due to be completed by the end of 2021.
