The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) with Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Department of Resources and Traditional Owners (Kabi Kabi and Joondoburri) will conduct planned burn operations within the southern section of Bribie Island National Park and some adjacent vegetated properties between the townships of Bonagree and Woorim.
The burn is scheduled between Tuesday 20 June 2023 to Friday 23 June 2023, weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.
As a result, smoke may be seen at south Bribie Island in the vicinity of Bonagree, Bellara and Woorim townships.
The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.
This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads, so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.
The northern parts of Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area will remain open, including Ocean Beach camping area and Poverty Creek camping area. Visitors are reminded to remain vigilant, monitor park alerts and follow any direction from Rangers.
