Innovation and ICT Minister Stephen Dawson has today presented Western Australian owned and operated innovation supporter Spacecubed with a $5.9 million Lotterywest grant.
Since 2012, Spacecubed has been supporting entrepreneurs, innovators and change makers in WA through flexible workspaces, growth programs and community.
With a membership boasting 6,638 local founders, Small and Medium Enterprises and corporates, Spacecubed facilitates and drives growth in the innovation sector. It has delivered over $4 billion in economic, social and environmental impacts in WA over the past ten years.
Spacecubed has also invested $1.5 million in WA startups over the past five years through their Plus Eight accelerator program, which has generated $12 million in follow-on investment.
One successful startup supported by Spacecubed, SheCodes, has taught over 6,000 women to code and is aiming to inspire 100,000 women to learn to code by 2025.
During the next ten years, with the support of the Lotterywest grant, Spacecubed is set to focus on partnerships and collaboration to help build a resilient and thriving WA community.
The $5.9 million grant funding will enable Spacecubed to:
- develop networks and collaboration across the early-stage innovation sector in WA;
- provide research into the state of Western Australian innovation and how the State is tracking in creating an ‘innovative society’; and
- fund the development of innovative ideas at various stages from testing, to enabling and supporting proposals.
