Mosman Council’s State of the Environment Report has been released, providing an annual snapshot of the local environment’s condition, current impacts on it and Council’s response.
Recent measures include the installation of solar panels on the Marie Bashir Mosman Sports Centre to reduce the centre’s greenhouse gas emissions and improve sustainability, while biodiversity measures include the planting of more than 300 semi-mature trees across Council’s streets and parks, the planting of native species at Balmoral Park and elsewhere, the enhancement of a wildlife corridor at Rawson Park and work to support a now thriving seahorse colony at Clifton Gardens.
Recycling at Council’s depot has been significantly improved following the implementation of a new separation system, while about 2,300 single-use cups were diverted from landfill over a seven-week reuseable cup trial.
Meanwhile, Mosman’s draft Climate Strategy and Action Plan, which has been developed with input from Council’s newly formed Climate Action Community Consultative Committee, will be placed on public exhibition from 16 December.
