Northam Health Campus has officially opened two new fully integrated operating theatres featuring state-of-the-art technology as part of the McGowan Government’s $42 million hospital redevelopment.
The refurbishment is part of the biggest transformation of country hospitals and health services in more than a generation.
Northam Health Campus has increased its operating theatre capacity from one to two theatres, as well as unveiled a refurbished recovery suite and a central sterile services department fitted with high-tech equipment.
Western Australian Country Health Service clinicians have already performed multiple procedures in the theatres in line with the staged approach to recommencing elective surgeries following a temporary reduction as part of WA Health’s COVID-19 response.
The improved, modern facilities enable the Wheatbelt community access to high-quality healthcare closer to home.
As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:
“The McGowan Government has maintained a firm commitment to giving country healthcare the attention it deserves and these new, state-of-the-art theatres at Northam Health Campus see us continuing to deliver on that pledge.
“These improved facilities mean people in the region now have access to new, modern, state-of-the-art facilities.
“We’re committed to providing the services people need, close to where they live.”
As stated by Agricultural Region MLC Laurie Graham:
“The increased theatre capacity is an integral part of the $42 million redevelopment of the Northam Health Campus and it’s great to see more services available in the Wheatbelt.
