Statement On Extension For Royal Commission

  • Attorney-General

The final reporting date for the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants has been extended after a request from the Royal Commission.

The Victorian Government has approved additional time following a request from the Chair of the Commission, the Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC – the Commission will now hand down its report by 30 November 2020.

The Government will also provide an additional $11.5 million to ensure the Commission has the resources and the support it needs to deliver a thorough and detailed assessment.

Given the seriousness of the matters involved, it’s important the Royal Commission is able to fully complete its vital work to preserve the integrity of the criminal justice system.

I want to thank the Commissioner, the Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC, and her team for the work they have done to date.

It would be inappropriate to comment further on the Royal Commission while it’s underway.
