VIC Premier

On behalf of the Victorian Government, I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of former Chief Judge Glenn Waldron and offer my condolences to his family during this difficult time.

With a legal career spanning 48 years and serving as Chief Judge of the County Court for almost 21 years, Mr Waldron made a significant contribution to Victoria’s justice system.

Mr Waldron was appointed Chief Judge of the Country Court in 1982 and is credited with making the reforms that transformed the role and reputation of the County Court in Victoria.

During his time as Chief Judge, Mr Waldron introduced changes which significantly improved access to justice for Victorians.

These include increased use of technology to expand video conferencing, court reporting and case management facilities.

One of his greatest legacies will be familiar to many Victorians, having lobbied for and successfully moved the County Court from a building that was too small to fully support the court into its current location in Melbourne’s CBD.

Mr Waldron’s immense contribution to Victoria’s justice system has in turn left a lasting legacy on the Victorian community and delivered immersurable benefits to the lives of many.
