Officers attached to Barrier Police District are encouraging stock owners to be vigilant and report suspicious activity, as stock theft remains prevalent in rural and remote locations.
The appeal comes after goats were stolen from a property in the Anabranch area.
Between 18 June 2019 and Friday (5 July 2019), police allege several fences were cut on a property along the Silver City Highway.
An unknown number of goats were stolen from the property.
Investigations into the theft continue.
Detective Acting Sergeant Donny Sproh of Barrier Police District confirmed a Rural Crime Investigator has been dedicated to the ongoing theft of stock in the area, as well as an increase of rural road patrols by general duties police.
He commended stock owners on reporting such incidents to the police.
“Illegal hunting and trespassing are always an issue in rural and remote locations, particularly in Barrier Police District,” he said.
“Only recently are matters starting to be reported due to a proactive police approach to address the situation.”
Police encourage stock owners to remain vigilant in relation to fences and gates on their property, and to ensure such matters are reported to the police.
“The community can work with police by taking photos of damaged fences, tyre marks and other indicators of the crime,” State Rural Crime Coordinator, Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside said.
