Strengthening Community Bushfire Preparedness

A free community event in Whittlesea Township next Tuesday evening will help residents prepare for the upcoming summer season.

The City of Whittlesea, in collaboration with the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Toorourrong Fire Guard Group, and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), will hold the Bushfire Scenario event at the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre on Tuesday 10 October at 6.30pm.

The event is open to residents in the City of Whittlesea and nearby areas offering the chance to for residents to hear important information to prepare for the coming season.

The CFA will present a Bushfire Scenario, providing valuable insights into potential fire emergencies. Additionally, the event will feature a panel of experts, including representatives from Victoria Police, VicSES, Council, Department of Education, and more.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from these experts, ask questions, and discuss various topics related to emergency planning. These discussions may include plans for local schools and aged care facilities during emergencies, as well as evacuation plans for families and pets.

The City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson invited the local community to make the most of the opportunity to hear from a variety of emergency planning experts at the one event.

“While it may not be summer quite yet, we have seen just recently with the fires in the Gippsland area that even just a few days of hot weather can quickly turn into an emergency, she said.

“It’s important for our community to be prepared ahead of the summer season, and now is a great time to start thinking things such as your emergency plans.
