Strengthening Territory Ties with Indonesia

The Territory’s international relationships continue to grow with the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Territory Government the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government this week.

The Chief Minister and West Nusa Tenggara’s Governor Zulkieflimansyah signed the Letter of Intent in a virtual signing ceremony on Monday.

West Nusa Tenggara is a province of Indonesia, it comprises of the Lesser Sunda Islands with the exception of Bali, which is its own province.

The agreement establishes a twin province agreement, which is similar to a sister city partnership, where by 2 regions come to an agreement to foster greater social, economic and cultural ties.

The signing is a key element of the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Dr Siswo Pramono’s, inaugural visit to the Northern Territory.

Over the past 30 years we have built strong business and trade relationships with Indonesia in the areas of education and training, cattle, defence and maritime services.

This signing coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Northern Territory and Indonesia.
