In celebration of International Women’s Day, Western Sydney’s premier arts institution Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre will host a free panel discussion and cocktail function on Friday 6 March, while Liverpool City Library will host a high tea and author talk on Sunday 8 March.
“International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration of the achievements of women and Liverpool City Council is proud to host events which recognise the strengths and successes of women from Liverpool and beyond,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.
Panellists at the 6 March discussion include Wendy Waller, Mayor of Liverpool; Elizabeth Dibbs, Western City District Commissioner at the Greater Sydney Commission; Lakshmi Logathassan, a lawyer and community worker; Carole-Anne Priest, Director and founding partner of Imalia; and Lee de Winton, CEO of Sydney Metro Airports (Bankstown and Camden).
“I was elected as the first female Mayor of Liverpool in 2008 and re-elected as Mayor in 2016,” Mayor Wendy Waller said.
“I am honoured to have served the Liverpool community and be a role model for other women looking at careers in local government.
“I look forward to sharing my own experiences at our International Women’s Day panel discussion at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, hearing from our other panellists about their experiences in their respective fields and encourage members of the public to come along.”
On Sunday 8 March, the community can enjoy the delights of a traditional high tea following an inspirational talk by author Christine Skyes for $20 per person. Reflecting on the themes of her 2019 novel The Changing Room, the Liverpool Girls High School alumna will discuss issues facing women and how women’s lives can be changed by fashion.
