The Sustainable Household Scheme has helped thousands of Canberra households access the benefits of a zero-net emissions future.
The highly successful scheme has been welcomed by the ACT community, supporting more Canberra households with the upfront costs by everyday climate investments like roof top solar, battery storage, electric heating and cooling, and electric vehicles.
In the financial year ending this week over 6,300 households have applied for loans across all products, totalling $60 million in approved loans. Households in regions across the city, including Belconnen, Weston Creek and Tuggeranong, have accessed the scheme since it commenced.
The Scheme is also supporting local business to thrive, creating and protecting local jobs as we progress towards our target of 250,000 jobs by 2025. The scheme’s top eight suppliers have premises in the ACT.
The Sustainable Household Scheme has become a leader in the ACT’s transition to net-zero emissions, facilitating multiple energy efficient products that would effectively reduce the ACT’s annual energy demand by about 0.05% or 1350 MWh.
In adding renewable energy sources to meet the demand of the Territory, the Scheme has been able to generate about 25 MW of renewable power catering to about 1.5% of the Territory’s energy demand.
The Scheme has reduced the ACT’s CO2 emissions by around 802 tons through upgrades from gas to electric products. This has reduced the annual running costs of ACT’s households by over $12.4 million.
