Parks and gardens across the region are flourishing and Council maintenance crews are busily working their way through over 970 hectares of fresh growth.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said that while it is great to see everything looking so lush and green, it has also put additional pressure on maintenance crews.

“With over 160 parks, multiple sports fields, road sides, streets scapes and our beautiful Kershaw and Botanic Gardens to maintain, it comes as no surprise that our crews have their work cut out for them particularly following heavy rain events,” Cr Rutherford said.

“There are certainly some places around the area that are in need of a mow but we want to assure the community that our crews are out and about and working hard to get on top of it.

“There are quite a few areas that are very water logged which makes accessing them with equipment very difficult.

“Roadworks across the region are also impacting how we are able to manage some arterial roadsides.

“Despite these difficulties though, our crews are continuing to work their way through the area.

“Over the Christmas holidays we especially want to make sure that those parks and public spaces are looking their best.

“In the interim, we encourage the community to let us know if there are areas that are overgrown and need attention, and we also thank everyone for their patience and understanding as our crews work diligently.”
