Superannuation policy challenges for refreshed shadow ministry
The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) welcomes the announcement of the Federal Opposition’s shadow cabinet ministry, amid a busy time for superannuation policy implementation.
AIST CEO Eva Scheerlinck said AIST and its member funds were committed to working productively with both sides of government on policies that will improve the retirement outcomes of all Australians.
“There is a lot of policy and regulatory change ahead that superannuation funds are grappling with,” Ms Scheerlinck said.
“The implementation of the Protecting Your Super package of reforms, along with several other key policy changes, requires a focussed and committed parliament to ensure smooth implementation for the industry and the best outcome for super fund members,” she said.
AIST welcomes the appointment of Dr Jim Chalmers as Shadow Treasurer, along with Stephen Jones as Assistant Treasurer & Minister for Financial Services, as well as the reappointment of Matt Thistlewaite as Assistant Minister for Financial Services.
Ms Scheerlinck also noted the contributions of outgoing Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen, and outgoing Financial Services Minister, Clair O’Neil for their contributions to the superannuation sector and their openness and willingness to engage with the profit-to-member superannuation industry.
