From 9 August MidCoast Council will begin work to knock down and rebuild the public toilets at Black Head Surf Life Saving Club.
Council is working on behalf of the surf club committee who successfully applied for funding through the NSW Government’s ‘My Community Projects’ program.
Work is expected to take about 10 weeks to complete, weather permitting, and the community will need to use alternative toilets located at the nearby playground.
The new amenities will include general changerooms as well as a family change room, unisex and ambulant toilets, an accessible bathroom and new outdoor showers.
“Black Head Beach is one of our most popular beaches, especially across the Summer holidays and it’s important that we have facilities that cater for people of all ages and abilities,” said Dan Aldridge, MidCoast Council’s Executive Manager of Community Spaces.
“I applaud the team at Black Head Surf Club for successfully securing this grant.
“We’re hoping to have this project completed by the end of October, in time for the warmer weather and the increased crowds.”
Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead said he is pleased to see these upgrades begin thanks to the NSW Nationals in Government’s My Community Project Funding.
“The upgrades will provide Black Head with state of the art facilities which will be better for the local community and tourists. Importantly the work will provide disabled facilities where there are none at present.”
Signage will be in place to direct the community and visitors to the alternative toilet block, about 100m away near the playground at the western end of the Black Head Beach Reserve.
