The inaugural All Abilities Talent Show was an amazing day of celebration, participation and inclusion. Featuring 17 acts showcasing a range of talents, from singing and dancing to instrumental performances, the event drew a crowd of over 180 attendees. Participants from Yarrawonga, Tungamah, Numurkah, Cobram, Barooga, Berrigan, Benalla, and Strathmerton were supported by their family and friends and organisations such as PALS, Cobram Community House, and Cobram and District Specialist School.
A heartfelt appreciation goes to Georgie Tomlin, an All Ability Advisory Committee member.
Georgie’s vision for an all-inclusive talent showcase became a reality, highlighting the importance of providing opportunities for all community members.
Georgie’s speech was a highlight of the day.
“Today is our day, today we can step out of the shadow and say we are here, we can do this, and what right does anyone have to tell us we can’t do it” Georgie said.
“Today I stand up.” she continued.
“In hope that the future is a little bit kinder to people like us.”
Moira Shire Council also announced the launch of the All Abilities Access and Inclusion Plan. Developed collaboratively with the All Ability Advisory Committee, this four-year plan outlines specific actions for continuous improvement, aiming to make Moira Shire a more accessible and inclusive community for everyone.
The launch coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, a day dedicated to promoting understanding and supporting the well-being of persons with disabilities.
The All Abilities Access and Inclusion Plan aligns with this mission, striving to enhance inclusivity and support for nearly one-fifth of the community in Victoria.
