Teachers receive a lifelong lesson from Touch Football

Students at Findon High School aren’t the only ones benefiting from the Sporting Schools Program.

Touch Football SA have developed a unique program that engages and educates teachers, providing them with the skills and confidence to deliver the program outside of Sporting Schools.

The nine-week program, led by Touch expert and coach David Harris, focuses on instilling the value of skills development in both teachers and students, encouraging them to learn and grow through expert instruction.

“I didn’t have this knowledge before” said Findon High School PE teacher, Karina Pascoe.

“As a teacher, this valuable experience was a chance to develop professionally as I learnt alongside an expert.”

“Only a few students had tried Touch Football prior, but after the program with David, over half of the students have signed up to participate competitively in an upcoming Touch Football Carnival.

The entire school community has benefited from the program, which will help to motivate and encourage students to maintain healthy active habits for life.

Findon Principal Phil Fitzsimons couldn’t be happier. “The opportunity to bring the program into our school, by engaging an industry expert, aligns with our Student-Centred Learning philosophy. Our students have been engaged and empowered as a result of this program.

Sporting Schools is a $200 million Australian Government initiative to get more children playing more sport, before, during and after school.
