Teddy Sheean award review

Guy Barnett,Minister for Veterans’ Affairs

I am delighted the Defence Honours Awards and Appeals Tribunal has accepted my application for a review into Teddy Sheean receiving a Victoria Cross.

I made the application to the Tribunal on 30 October 2018 as I believe the case for a Victoria Cross for Teddy Sheean is very strong.

The Tribunal accepted the application in November 2018 and commenced the process. A review is deserved and required to give official recognition to Teddy Sheean.

I thank the Federal Minister for Veterans Affairs Darren Chester for welcoming the review and publicly announcing the schedule of hearings.

It has been a long and hard campaign and now after more than 15 years I am more hopeful than ever of gaining appropriate recognition for Teddy Sheean.

The Tribunal hearings will be held in Hobart later this month. I am currently responding to the Tribunal’s requests and continue to prepare for this important hearing.

The hearings to be held in the Hobart town hall on 25 and 26 March will also be an important few days for Garry Ivory and the Sheean family, as well as our veteran community.
