Tell Us How you want to Play at Two New Reserves

Wyndham City is inviting residents to provide feedback on the types of programs they would like to see at two new sporting reserves.

Work on the reserves, at Alcock Road in Truganina and Bensonhurst Parade in Point Cook, are expected to be completed later this year.

In line with Council’s Sports Strategy, each of the reserves will offer soccer, cricket and tennis programs.

Residents can have their input on how the programs are delivered to ensure activities meet the age, sporting requirements (beginners, intermediate or senior) and values of the local communities that will use the venues.

The reserves can also be used for other sports, activities and events.

Following this initial round of engagement, face-to-face community meetings will take place in August where residents can share further feedback or put their hand up to be involved as volunteers within the clubs.

Wyndham City Mayor and Active City portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said he was looking forward to seeing increased sporting opportunities available to the residents in the growth areas of Wyndham.

“I know that parents are travelling quite far to reach sporting clubs at present and it will be great to see these clubs established closer to home.”

“It’s exciting to be able to influence the programming of a club so that it meets the needs of the community and promotes the values of members – especially when for many, clubs become a home away from home.”

“We know that some residents will be looking to play in formal competition with a Club, whilst others will prefer to play in a more social, less competitive setting. There may also be interest in coaching or tuition with a professional coach and others will be happy to turn up and play with their family and friends. This survey is all about understanding how our community want to play”.

“I also look forward to seeing these reserves become important gathering places in the community, for activities and events other than formal sport.”
