The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to improving public transport services between Hobart and Kingborough, with tenders being called for the first stage of the Park and Ride project.
The tender is for preliminary works to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility at the planned Firthside Park and Ride site.
The preliminary work will include construction of a section of footpath to improve pedestrian safety on the eastern side of Browns Road, opposite the Southern Outlet off-ramp.
On the Hobart-bound side of the Southern Outlet, pedestrian safety improvements will be built on the Groningen Road turning circle and a new footpath and accessibility-compliant bus shelter installed to provide safer and more convenient access to buses.
Construction of the preliminary works at Firthside is scheduled to start in December.
The works will be the first of the Hobart City Deal Southern Projects program, a suite of projects that deliver an integrated approach to managing peak traffic flow on the Southern Outlet.
The project will make public transport a more reliable and viable option for commuters, and improve the reliability of travel times.
Concept designs for the Park and Ride facilities at Firthside and Huntingfield are due to be released for public comment in the coming weeks.
