Tenders are now being called for the construction of a purpose-built antenatal clinic at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is investing more than $4 million in the project as part of the North West Integrated Maternity Service.
The project will provide a state-of-the-art facility for women and their babies in the North West, delivering better support for patients and staff.
The project will bring together a range of dedicated integrated antenatal services, including four dedicated cardiotocography bays, the provision of a reception and patient waiting area which will also be able to be used as an education space, six consulting rooms, staff offices, a utility room as well as staff and patient amenities.
Cardiotocography, or CTG, is a foetal monitoring machine used by obstetricians and midwives to record an unborn baby’s heartbeat as well as uterine contractions.
This facility will provide better services to North West mums and their babies.
A contractor will be appointed next month, and work is expected to commence at the NWRH in April.
The project is planned for completion in 2022.
