The Seniors Gala Concert kicks off a successful 2024 Seniors Festival

Willoughby City Council was proud to showcase its Seniors Gala Concert at the Zenith Theatre on Tuesday, 19 March 2024 with over 250 seniors in attendance as part of this year’s Seniors Festival.

Senior spectators were treated to many musical performances and entertainment on the day including those from the Noteable Theatre Company, Willoughby’s multicultural community choir for seniors ‘Beating Time’, the Bulgarian Rhythms Dance Group and performances from the Taiwanese Folk Dance Group, Chinese Folk Dance Group and Multicultural Singing Group from Willoughby City Council’s Multicultural Centre MOSAIC.

This year’s NSW Seniors Festival theme is ‘Reach Beyond’ which Willoughby City Council has embraced to focus on the importance of staying connected with the community and leading a healthy and active life.

Willoughby’s senior residents make up almost 14 per cent of Willoughby City and continue to make an enormous contribution to our community.

Willoughby City Council is proud to deliver such a unique and valuable Festival which includes an exciting program of more than 35 free, or discounted activities and events to enable seniors to come together and connect with the vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community that is Willoughby.

Some of the many terrific events included in this year’s Senior Festival line up include:

Talks by the Art Gallery of NSW at Chatswood Library on 21 and 28 March – The talks will take place in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and tour guides from the Art Gallery of NSW will share a selection of artworks related to ‘Reach Beyond’ from their collections

An information talk by ‘Good Grief’ on Thursday 21 March at the Dougherty Community Centre

Join ‘Good Grief’ for a life affirming discussion about death. Myths, misinformation and fears are dispelled, and practical guidance is given to make death better.

On Saturday 23 March there is a documentary screening at Chatswood Library – ‘How the Beatles Changed the World’. Reminisce and learn about the fascinating story of the cultural, social, spiritual and musical revolution ignited by the coming of the Beatles.

And on Monday 25 March the Leisure Centre is hosting our Seniors Health and Fitness Day

Where you will be given free access to the Health Club and group fitness classes at the Willoughby Leisure Centre from 8am to 1pm.

The Centre offers a wide selection of group fitness classes that are tailored to address the broad range of health and well-being needs for seniors and people who are starting or re-starting their fitness journey

The array of diverse and inclusive activities and events included in this year’s Seniors Festival demonstrates the dedication of Willoughby City Council to create a connected, diverse and resilient community.
