Third arrest after string of break-ins at stores across Sydney, NSW

A third person has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a number of property offences committed upon newsagents, tobacconists and convenience stores across Sydney.

Between Wednesday 19 February 2020 and Sunday 15 March 2020, several break-ins were reported at stores in Turrella, Mascot, Bronte, Clovelly, Meadowbank, Rhodes, Wentworth Point and Earlwood.

Police allege that more than $100,000 in cash, cigarettes and other goods were stolen during the break and enters.

Strike Force Bettowynd was formed by detectives from South Sydney Police Area Command to investigate the matters, with a man and a woman arrested in Mascot last month. They remain before the courts.

About 3.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 April 2020), a man attended Mascot Police Station where he was arrested in relation to two break and enters that occurred on Wednesday 11 March 2020.

Police will allege that the first offence took place at a newsagency in Earlwood about 2.35am where over $5,000 worth of cigarettes was allegedly stolen.

The second offence allegedly occurred at a supermarket in Breakfast Point around 4.25am, where approximately $8,500 worth of cigarettes was stolen.

The man, aged 42, was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter and two counts possess prohibited drug.

The Dulwich Hill man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 9 April 2020).
