Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today urged Western Australians to have more conversations about the need to reduce violence in their communities, as she launched the third phase of the action plan against violence in schools.
Voices Against Violence, which is the third stage of the McGowan Government’s No Voice to Violence campaign, aims to unite students, staff, parents and community members to speak out against violence in schools.
The six-week campaign encourages everyone to play their part to bring about positive change and make acts of violence socially unacceptable.
It is State-wide and will run across media outlets, digital and social media. Schools will be provided with posters to create awareness on school grounds.
In 2018, Minister Ellery launched the McGowan Government’s action plan ‘Let’s take a stand together’ to provide principals and teachers with support to manage incidents and problem behaviour.
The first stage of the No Voice to Violence social media campaign appealed to young people and others in the community to think before liking or sharing violent vision on social media.
Following on from those messages, the second stage focused on accountability and legal implications, as well as consequences of involvement in any form of violence, which can include sharing, filming, encouraging and participating in violent acts.

“Since 2018, we have been encouraging everyone in school communities to take a stand against violence together.
“This campaign educates young people and community members about the impacts that violent incidents, as well as the filming and sharing of violence online, can have on their lives.
“Now with phase three, we aim to reignite all of those important messages and encourage everyone to speak out against violence.
“We all have a responsibility to bring about positive change, and the campaign to tackle violence is about ongoing conversations to remind us all that we have a part to play in stopping violence in our schools.”
