Time for pleasantries is over

Tasmanian Labor

It’s time for Premier Peter Gutwein and Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff to be upfront and honest about the state of Tasmania’s health system and the dire need for more federal funding as we plan to reopen the state.

Shadow Health Minister Anita Dow said the human cost of the current health crisis couldn’t be clearer with Tasmanians living with chronic pain, in fear of the consequences of their delayed treatment or desperately waiting for mental health services after almost eight years of failures from this government.

“The facts remain that even without the burden of COVID Tasmania’s health system is at breaking point,” Ms Dow said.

“The need for federal funding is not new but at this point in time it’s more important than ever.

“It is not good enough to call the Federal Government’s response less than satisfactory, the time for pleasantries are over.

“It’s now time for the government to stand up and do the right thing for Tasmanians.

“This is critical to prepare our state for reopening at the 90 per cent double dose vaccination rate.”
