Michael Ferguson’s unacceptable secrecy surrounding the process to replace the Spirit of Tasmania ships is putting jobs at risk.
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Shane Broad, said Tasmania’s tourism and freight sectors need certainty not secrecy.
“When Michael Ferguson announced the scuttling of TT-Line’s ship replacement plans on July 21, he said a taskforce would report on alternative options as soon as three months,” Dr Broad said.
“We are now only a month away from that initial three month deadline on October 21 and today the Minister today couldn’t even answer questions from Labor including who the taskforce has met with or when the report will be released publicly.
“It is totally unacceptable for Michael Ferguson to push this process out for six months and keep this vital information secret, given the importance of this investment to the Tasmanian economy and job creation in the tourism and fresh freight sectors.
“This is just another example of the Gutwein government playing Russian roulette with the future of our tourism and freight sectors and demonstrating again its inability to deliver on major infrastructure projects.”
